Aloha! And thanks for your comment.

This passage from Amos could have eschatological implications, but the most immediate ones have to do with the extraordinary abundance the Lord promises to restore - like the garden of Eden.

This passage shows four stages in the process of abundance - plowing to make the ground ready for sowing, sowing, reaping the harvest of grapes, and treading out the grapes to make wine. In the time envisioned by Amos, the process is compressed, and the plowman, sower, reaper, and treader are almost stumbling over each other to do their jobs. That's abundance! That's our God!

In the context of souls, I don't think I'd read into this the thought that the treader represents Jesus as Judge. It's more that process of sowing the Word and reaping the harvest of souls is going to be compressed in the latter days. Maybe the treader of grapes is the pastor who is discipling the new believer to maturity.

What do you think?

Aloha from Paradise (California).
I was looking for an explanation on Amos' word and found this site/blog. I like your understandign; however, you failed to work the one treading grapes into the explanation. Any insight as to this application in the same picture?

As a young Christian I came across a pastor who preached one heck of a wonderful sermon and even used some gifts that I marveled at...I went up to talk with the man and discovered that he wasn't a very nice person off stage. I went home crying and asking just why GOD? why didn't he love me as he had preached that? GOD answered and quickly, "I said you would know them by their fruit; not by their gifts". I pondered that and to my discovery I also read that some would be denied as that Christ didn't know them when they would even say but I did works in your name. A tough walk this Christian walk and one that does require Amos 3:3 and the agreement is to walk with GOD thru His Son's measures and teachings.

I want the same thing..to feel comfortable with a church dedicated to serving the same Lord of the New Testament...in answer to your last statement of this blog text.
You may find this info at this link most interesting, for it establishes why Jesus had a water baptism as Jesus had no sin.

Hope this agrees with you...I look forward to speaking with you again.

The word "Lord" is an English word given to us by the revision of the Greek to English. Yet if you search the scriptures you will only find one verse in the entire Bible that truly references Christ as LORD by fulfilling the words of Daniel 7: 13, 14. In all the gospel accounts we find the fact that Jesus consistantly referred to Himself as "Son of man" so much that when the High Priest asked Him if He indeed called Himself son of GOD, Jesus replied about being the 'son of man' and the High Priest tore his clothing and called it blasphemy, why? because it was a direct reference to Daniel's vision. Interesting to note is that Daniel reported what he saw after the man went into the clouds, yet in Acts, chap. 1 the disciples saw the first part of the vision of Jesus ascending into the cloud. The Son of man has come to seek and save that which was lost.

If you think about it..how it must have felt to have the LORD serving fish for dinner on the beach after the disciples had previously seen Him on the cross!
I just discovered your blog and hope you like my comments...I am doing what you said,

I was happy to see Phil Driscoll's participation, but sadded when I read where he's been recently. Had the opportunity to hear him in concert once - AMAZING. I'm sure God will use this experience to birth a new sound out of him.
